"Christmas in Nidaros" - our own Christmas CD!

"Jul i Nidaros" ("Christmas in Nidaros") was recorded  by the team from World of Sound in April. They came over from UK to Trondheim and we spent a weekend together with this very professional people.
On this CD we want to give the listeners a program put together from some of the items we have included in our annual Christmas concerts in the 300 years old Town Hall, now a part of Trondheim Public Library.
Some of the pieces should be well known, such as the Christmas march The Wonder of Christmas, Silent Night and the carol The Manger scene in Your first Christmas. O, little town of Bethlehem is beautifully played by the band's principal Ingrid Hesjedal and solo horn player Tor Ødegaard play In the bleak midwinter with passion. More modern Christmas music is represented by the hits Baby, it's cold outside, a duet version with Mette Stene Ertsgaard on flugel horn and Kjell Ove Abelseth on trombone, White Christmas and a bright new arrangement of The Pogues' rather rough A Fairytale in New York (Storbyjul), made for us by jazz trombone player Helge Førde. Bass trombone player Karen Riis plays her version of Frosty the Snowman superb!
The CD's two guest soloists take care of the Norwegian items. Sonjas sang til julestjernen (Sonja's song to the Christmas Star) is a well known song from the Christmas play The Journey to the Christmas Star and Jørgen Hattemaker by one of Norway's best known songwriters, Alf Prøysen, describes how we all aim for the same paradise weather we are King Salomo or a hatter such as Jørgen. Soprano singer Stine Mari Langstrand, with her lyrical voice, sings these songs absolutely stunning! Both songs cleverly arranged by the band's conductor Geir Ulseth. Yet another beautiful Norwegian song, Himmel på jord (Heaven on earth) is arranged especially for this CD by the band's former solo trombone player, now Project Coordinator at World of Sound, Mari Malm Mørkved. Share my Yoke is so nicely sung by Stine Mari in the much played Ivor Bosanko arrangement.
Jan Magne Førde is a freelance trumpet and flugel horn player, and his contribution to the CD is as flugel horn soloist in his arrangement of an old traditional tune Et lite barn så lystelig (A little child so bright) and his own composition Lys (Light), both with a jazzy feeling. Frode Fjellheim travels around the world performing his own music inspired by the Sami's joik, and his Eatnemen Vuelie is the famous song from Disney film Frost! In this piece you can also hear the tune Fairest Lord Jesus, one of the dearest Christmas songs in Norway.

You can purchase this CD with a lot of new repertoar for the Christmas season from World of Brass for only £9.99.

Hope you like it, Merry Christmas!
